After my first article on Unique Home I wanted to update you on our fundraising efforts and visit to the Home.
A HUGE thank you to all who donated and sponsored us, our current total is at £5,542!!! Once gift aid is added this will take the total up to over £6,000. We did the Skydive on Thursday 14th March on a beautiful sunny day. Despite our fears, as we suspected, thinking of the girls and the kindness and generosity of our supporters meant we jumped out of that plane without looking back!
We visited the Home on our visit to India last month. It really was the most humbling experience of our lives. The present Home is small, but clean and tidy. There are 60 girls there all ranging from a few months to 19…they are incredibly well looked after.
Bibi Ji does not tolerate pity or sympathy for them or her- she is a force to be reckoned with! The girls go to private schools, receive tuition and are focussed on their education. In fact, one of them is off to USA shortly to start studying Medicine…which is incredible for any child but truly remarkable for a Unique Home Girl. We were all blown away by their positivity, focus and strength of character. Bibi is passionate about giving these girls they very best start in the life. They are building a larger Home which looks phenomenal- the funds we raise will go towards that new building.
My husband and I were asked by the Board of Trustees for UK Friends of Unique Home to join them as fellow Trustees – which we have accepted with honour. We always knew this was a very special cause and having visited the Home we now know this is something that we want to make a long term commitment to.
